Objective: SWBAT read, interpret and analyze Shakespearean drama. SWBAT analyze and draw inferences about characters. SWBAT analyze and describe theme in a drama.
Do-Now: Lady Macbeth has shown she has a great influence over her husband and his decisions. What other women (real or fictional) does she remind you of? Explain.
Today: 1) Review dramatic and verbal irony. Where have we already seen dramatic irony in Macbeth?
2) Class will begin reading Macbeth Act 2, Scene 1 examining the instances of verbal and situational irony present in the scene and discussing how they are used to create suspense.
3) In pairs, students will read Act 2, Scene 2, examining Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s different reactions to Duncan’s death.
4) Compose a diagram or draw a visual illustrating the dynamic between the two characters of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
5) Open Mind: Students will choose either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth and fill out an Open Mind describing what they feel the character may be thinking/feeling during Act 2, Scene 2.
