Objective: SWBAT analyze and interpret character (intent, motivation and action).  SWBAT interpret and explain figurative language.  SWBAT read, interpret and analyze Shakespearean drama.

Do-Now: Macduff has been accused of being a traitor against Macbeth, yet Macbeth is guilty of killing king Duncan.  Who is the real traitor: Macbeth or Macduff?  Explain.  Can both men be considered traitors?  Explain why or why not.

Today: 1) Class will read Act 4, Scene 2.  What do Lady Macduff and her son discuss about Macduff's disappearance?  How is Macduff viewed as a traitor in more ways than one?

2) Class will begin reading Act 4, Scene 3 focusing on the test of loyalty Malcolm gives to Macduff.  Why is this test necessary based on what has happened thus far in the play?

3) In groups, students will finish reading Act 4, Scene 3.  What are Malcolm and Macduff’s plans for defeating Macbeth?  Are their plans against Macbeth an act of treason?

4) Complete questions 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 on pg. 507.

Exit Slip: Complete question #13 on pg. 507.  Was the scene of Macduff’s family being slaughtered necessary?
