Thursday, March 15

Objective: SWBAT read, interpret and analyze Shakespearean drama.  SWBAT analyze and draw inferences about characters.  SWBAT analyze and describe theme in a drama.

Do-Now: Now that Duncan has been killed, how will Macbeth get away with murder?  What do you think he will do in order to free himself from suspicion?  Who will he blame for the murder?  Who else might have a motive for killing Duncan?

Today: 1) Class will begin reading Act 2, Scene 3 of Macbeth.  How is the Porter used as a comic relief for the play?  Where have we seen comic characters in Shakespeare’s other tragedies?

2) Students will finish reading Act 2, Scene 3 in groups, examining how Macbeth and Lady Macbeth overact in order to cover up the fact they have just committed murder.  Students will cite actions/dialogue which show Macbeth/Lady Macbeth overdramatizing.

Exit Slip: Do you feel the Macbeths’ have done a good job convincing the other characters of their innocence?  What may they have done/said which other characters may view as suspicious.
